Museum Café

Before or after your visit you can pop into Jopie’s Húskeamer for a coffee with some homemade cake or a delicious lunch. In the evening you can also have a delightful dinner there. Take a look at the menu here. The museum café is run by the great team from the restaurant next door: Restaurant Folkerts.

During opening hours the café is accessible via the museum. Outside opening hours you can access it via the entrance at Folkerts at Merk 26. You can make a reservation by sending an e-mail to info@restaurantfolkerts.nl or calling +31 (0)515 – 54 15 90.

‘De Golle’, a former storage area filled with all sorts of items that once stood in Jopie’s house, barn or yard is part of the museum café. Here you’ll see the original red baize shirt and the milking trousers. You’ll feel as though you’ve stepped right into Jopie’s world.

How to Get There

The Jopie Huisman Museum is situated in the heart of the historic centre of Workum, one of the eleven cities of the famous Eleven Cities Tour, about 50 metres from the market square (de Merk).

By car
If you are coming by car then free parking is available behind the museum, in the parking bays around Panwurk and behind the Great or St Gertrude Church on the Skil.

By public transport
Workum lies on the Leeuwarden–Stavoren railway line, which is possibly the most beautiful railway line in the Netherlands. It runs straight through the breathtakingly beautiful Frisian lake district. The museum is about a 20-minute walk from Workum station. On weekdays there is a local bus service (Qbuzz 102 towards Makkum) which stops at the Merk.

By boat
Workum is situated in the heart of the Frisian lake district and is easily accessible by boat. You can moor just around the corner from the museum, in the new harbour basin next to the Begine Bridge, directly behind the Great or St Gertrude Church.

Workum

A visit to the picturesque town of Workum is an attraction in itself. Stroll through the old town centre, past the historic buildings on the main streets, Noard and Súd, and pop into the many little shops and galleries. On a sunny day, it’s lovely to relax on one of the terraces on the Merk, which is one of Friesland’s most beautiful squares. The distinctive weigh house, which houses the heritage museum, is also well worth a visit. The guild bars in the imposing St Gertrude Church are particularly special - a series of 18th-century paintings that are unique in the Netherlands.

Nature lovers will also find plenty to enjoy in and around Workum and the Frisian IJsselmeer coast. It’s the perfect place for walking, cycling, sailing or (kite)surfing. For more tourist information, visit the Visit Friesland website.
